Denise Minter practicing self-compassion at Esalen, in Big Sur, CA 2013.

Why was this entry stuck in “draft”? Sorry I didn’t publish this back in 2013…..better late than never.

One of my favorite speakers at Wisdom 2.0 was Kristin Neff, Ph. D., Associate Professor, University of Texas at Austin, who has created a body of research on the topic of Self-Compassion.

What are the Components of Self-Compassion?

  1. Immersive Attention: which allows for insight, with a generative quality.
  2. Slowing Down: not distracted, which allows for wisdom and flow.
  3. the Power of Patience

Scale to Measure Self-Compassion

  1. Self-Kindness vs. Self-Judgment
  2. Common Humanity vs. Isolation (a shared human experience
  3. Mindfulness vs. Over-Identification

Wisdom Healing Qigong at Esalen with Master Mingtong Gu

If you wish to experience Heaven on Earth, do get yourself to Esalen as soon as possible.

Esalen Institute

Esalen grows much of their own food and flowers.

Master Mingtong Gu offered a week of Wisdom Healing Qigong at Esalen last week, and I attended as an assistant teacher, along with Judy Guma and Juliette. Enjoy these pictures, for a hint of the beauty and majesty of the land, the people, the spirit of Esalen.
